…The What

  • A mental health evaluation is the first step of our treatment planning process and helps us to evaluate a person’s emotional well-being and mental health. It involves answering questions about your thoughts, feelings, behaviors and gives us a chance to get to know you.

  • We offer a range of services and modalities from play therapy for children as well as individualized therapies and interventions for adolescents, teens, and adults. Our team is experienced in helping individuals with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and trauma.

  • As marriage and family therapists we take a systemic approach that considers the complex dynamics of a family system. Both family and couples counseling can help to strengthen relationships, build resiliency, develop connection and can be useful at different phases in life.

  • EEG Neurofeedback therapy is a non-invasive procedure that measures a patient’s brainwaves and provides real-time feedback about how the brain is functioning. The brain is then rewarded with visual and auditory cues to either reinforce or inhibit favorable or unfavorable brain wave patterns. A & H Counseling is home to Adrianna Potts, the only BCIA licensed neurofeedback practitioner in the tri-county area.

  • Play therapy is used to help treat emotional and behavioral problems in children as it creates an environment that allows for symbolic play and verbal expression in a way that meets their developmental needs. Play therapy can support the creation of new neural pathways and helping brains to grow.

  • The T.O.V.A. provides healthcare professionals with objective measurements of attention and inhibitory control. The visual T.O.V.A. aids in the assessment of, and evaluation of treatment for, attention deficits, including attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The auditory T.O.V.A. aids in the assessment of attention deficits, including ADHD. TOVA testing is not a stand-alone diagnostic tool but can be used in conjunction with a mental health evaluation by a qualified clinician to determine attention deficits.

  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based approach demonstrated to help children and caregivers overcome various trauma related stressors. TF-CBT helps with upsetting thoughts and beliefs and teaches new skills to deal with life stressors.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a type of non-invasive therapy that involves moving the eye in a specific way to help process past traumatic events. Instead of talking in depth about a distressing issue, EMDR involves changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors that result from a distressing experience to allow the brain to resume a natural healing process. EMDR has been shown to be most effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder but is always proven effective at treating a variety of other mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression.

  • Similar to EMDR, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based treatment that uses back and forth eye movements to help clients address common problems from anxiety and depression to OCD and PTSD. It is non-invasive and allows for the processing of thoughts and feelings without the need to share all of the details. Evidence shows that the changes with ART are effective and long-lasting.
